My 2017 New Years Betting Wish list

(1) Avoid the 'false value trap' and wager on substance only.
(2) Money management, money management and money management
(3) Discipline to avoid the exotics wagering format as it is a fools paradise (at least for me).
(4) Take advantage of the parlay format involving place and show wagers for frequent cashing wagers and limited losing runs. My records indicate consistent profit.
(5) Get into the habit of avoiding wet racing surfaces for the most part
(6) Limit listening to the advice of 'so called' experts
(7) Take advantage of research time in an ever changing game
(8) Avoid any emotional responses to tough losing wagers
(9) Stay with a businesslike wagering method for the 'Day at the Races' trip to the race track
(10) Find the discipline (and time) to post on a regular basis instead of the scattered style of posting I have exhibited in the past.

Most of all I wish a very Happy New Year to All!!!

Another update

My new job has me very busy the past few weeks ( but I do enjoy it). Not an abundance of wagers the past 19 days with a loss on the account. Looking forward to the beginning of the year and a fresh start.

Three is for me

Three wagers on this Friday with two cashes for a 4.645 point profit on the account. Both cashing wagers won their respective races with a 9/2 and 3/1 marker, however, I stick to my plan of frequent cashing wagers using the place and show pools only which offer some real value opportunities.

Another Happy update

A profit of over 10 points on the account the past ten days with a mostly grind out approach. Winning a little, losing a little and a big win day made up the composition of the results. The early  Winter racing schedule has been consistent with fairly large fields for the most part. Gulfstream Park opens up their meeting in a few days which will provide some large fields and turf races which can provide the value selections.

My best to all out there!

Loss

Lost five points on the account today with two 'valuable' wagers at Parx that were the typical good bet bad result scenario. I have squandered my profit to date and will take a few days off for the Thanksgiving Holiday on Thursday. If something is strong on the Holiday I will get involved.

Update

My update for the past ten days shows a win-lose-lose pattern which accounted for a 17.3 point loss on the account. Made some bad wagers that were under valued at post time and with the huge volume of 'late' money showing up at the final seconds of wagering I took the worst of the percentages.

All in all despite the loss I am making good wagers, for the most part and the profits will be there when the luck changes.

Small profit

A time of patience for myself with the racing cards the past few days with today being no exception. Found a suitable spot in the Churchill Downs 8th race and with my $4.20 show payoff I brought a 2.2 point profit on the account. I do anticipate more opportunities in the future to keep with my plan of a maximum of three wagers per day.

All the best!  Jake

Quiet Time

No wagers for Monday and Tuesday. There were a few that I considered but, in the final decision was not a favorable risk vs reward scenario.

Breeders Cup Weekend

The Breeders Cup had a very successful event this year at Santa Anita in beautiful sunny Southern California(one of these years I will get out there). My wagering returned a three day profit:

Friday: +8.10 Pts.  Saturday: +11.115 Pts.  Sunday: +0.975 Pts. +20.1 total profit

I was very careful picking my spots with the insistence on having an edge. no edge. no bet...no deviations was the phrase. I tend to accept more wagers than normal on these 'big event' days and it has hurt my bottom line through out the years. I fall into the trap of value, for value alone, and the successful wagers are value with the proven edge otherwise the wager is in-complete.

I will be looking over the dark day cards for Monday and Tuesday for any opportunities.

Back On Track

I am returning as of the 2016 Aqueduct Racetrack Fall Meeting on Friday November 4 ( The first day of the Breeders Cup). It's has been a trying period for the last three months as I lost my job due to downsizing. I won't say more about it other then I am now gainfully employed and feeling vindicated

I have spent a great deal of time, mostly to keep my sanity, LOL doing research on my betting records and analyzing my 'comfort zone'. The facts are evident that I am a highly conservative player who will be specializing in place and show wagers using slight progressions that are very controlled. There will be days with a maximum of six wagers, while other days less, and at times none.

One point as fact, my ability to profit from exotic wagering and win only is non-existent. I show periods of profit until the inevitable losing run occurs and my disciplines are tested and the bottom line ends.

I admire the long-term bloggers that show profit with there selections. I know the minor place and show pools offer me consistent and sometimes lucrative opportunities for profit. Not glamorous, but it is a fact. The advantages are apparent with a very high cashing percentage and a money management plan that improves the profit by 10-30%.

Good luck to all!

Jake
